About the Event

I’m so delighted to be offering Ashtanga Yoga classes at The Den Yoga Studio!

My intention for this Saturday morning class is to create a safe and inclusive space where we can be, learn and practice together and I’m really looking forward to growing a supportive community of like minded-spirits on the journey of yoga. My aim is to see every practitioner as the individual they are and support and guide them in a non-dogmatic way.

This is a guided class based on the traditional Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series but with some adaptations and fewer transitions, for ease and efficiency. I will offer alternative variations for difficult poses and also modifications where needed, however in order to enjoy the class, students should have some previous experience of Ashtanga Yoga.

If you are a complete beginner please get in touch at gabriellanicholson@hotmail.co.uk to find out about other options.

I’m a fully qualified Yoga Teacher (500hr RYS Yoga Alliance) and I have been teaching yoga for more than a decade.

Since I attended my first ever yoga class in 1996, I have completed several different teacher training programmes and I’ve explored various practices and styles of yoga along the way.

It was in 2010 when I took a workshop with Luke Jordan that I was first introduced to Ashtanga Yoga and it was these teachings that really resonated with me and that have kept me inspired to continue with this transformational practice ever since.

The aspects of the Ashtanga Yoga system that I love are; the structure and discipline of following a set sequence of asanas, the calming meditational quality of moving synchronised with the breath, the traditional ritual of chanting together and the magic that only seems to happen in a Mysore room.

Through personal ups and downs I’ve learnt that yoga is certainly not a linear journey. But by intertwining the wisdom of the ancient yogic texts with the effects of this strong physical asana practice I’ve found it to be an invaluable tool in developing inner strength, flexibility and resilience when moving through life’s many challenges and changes.

I maintain a daily practice, a Sadhana which I try to apply throughout all aspects of my life. I continue to study regularly with Luke and other international teachers on my journey of personal growth and I’m deeply grateful to all the teachers on my path.

I am passionate about everything that helps us to ‘be well’ in ourselves and about living consciously on this earth and I love to share what I’ve learned with my community. My intention is to inspire and encourage my students to develop their own regular yoga practice so that they too can find more harmony, peace, and joy in everyday life.
